Why your hormones feel out of sync

Why do your hormones feel out of sync?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, hormone rhythm is understood through the rise and fall of Yin and Yang, especially within the Kidney system and the extraordinary vessels that guide reproduction and timing. When this internal rhythm loses its timing, the whole cycle can start feeling irregular, depleted, or emotionally unstable.

At RootCare, we often see that hormone symptoms are not just about one hormone being "high" or "low." They often reflect deeper issues in Essence, stress regulation, Blood nourishment, and the body's ability to move from one hormonal phase to the next at the right time.

01

Tian Gui loses its rhythm

In TCM, Tian Gui is the refined reproductive essence that underlies puberty, fertility, and menopause. When Kidney Essence is depleted through overwork, aging, or chronic illness, this hormonal timing signal becomes less stable.

  • The body's internal clock can start feeling irregular, weaker, or earlier than expected.
  • This is often part of why cycle timing, fertility, or menopausal transitions feel out of sync.
02

The energy credit card drains the battery

Essence is often compared to a battery with a finite lifespan. Modern life often pushes people to spend more energy than they replenish, forcing the body to draw on deeper reserves too often.

  • Over time, this can show up as early depletion, weaker fertility, or earlier peri-menopausal change.
  • Hormone symptoms start to feel less like a monthly fluctuation and more like a reserve problem.
03

The Yin-Yang tides stop transitioning well

The cycle depends on Yin and Yang rising and falling at the right moments. If they do not shift properly around ovulation and menstruation, the body loses the smooth rhythm needed for a healthy cycle.

  • The cycle can become delayed, shortened, skipped, or harder to read.
  • The body is not failing randomly. The timing mechanism itself is struggling.
04

Heart and Liver stop directing the cycle smoothly

Even when the Kidneys have enough reserves, the Heart and Liver still need to direct Qi and Blood properly. Emotional shock, stress, grief, or frustration can disrupt this flow and throw off menstrual timing and symptom intensity.

  • This often shows up as PMS, breast distension, irritability, or cycle changes tied to stress.
  • The cycle feels emotionally loaded because Qi and Blood are not moving in the usual way.
05

Overwork and stress erode Yin

Working long hours under stress is one of the most common causes of Kidney Yin deficiency. As the cooling and moistening foundation of the body gets depleted, symptoms of emptier, hotter imbalance begin to show up.

  • This can look like hot flushes, anxiety, night sweats, sleep shifts, or feeling restless in the body.
  • The issue is not only stress. It is that stress has started changing the body's foundation.
06

Phlegm and Dampness obstruct the cycle

Irregular eating and damp-forming foods like excess sugar or dairy can generate Dampness and Phlegm. In TCM, these heavier substances can obstruct the uterus and ovaries and interfere with normal ovulation and cycle rhythm.

  • This is part of why some hormone pictures also include weight changes, congestion, or PCOS-type features.
  • The cycle may not just be depleted. It may also be obstructed.
