Why you keep getting sick

Why do you keep getting sick so often?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, frequent illness usually points to weak Zheng Qi, the body's overall upright resistance. When this protective energy is low, the body becomes easier to invade and slower to recover, so colds, fatigue, and environmental sensitivity start repeating in a cycle.

At RootCare, we often see that this is not just bad luck. It can reflect weak Defensive Qi, poor recovery after previous illness, deeper reserve depletion, or lifestyle patterns that keep draining the system faster than it can rebuild.

01

Defensive Qi is too weak at the surface

Defensive Qi protects the surface of the body and helps resist environmental pathogens. If it is weak, the body catches colds more easily and struggles to stay resilient through weather changes and seasonal shifts.

  • This often looks like frequent colds, weak resilience, and getting sick more easily than other people.
  • The protective shield is present, but it does not feel strong enough.
02

The Spleen and Lungs are not building defense well

The Spleen helps create usable energy from food, and the Lungs distribute that protection to the skin and surface. If either system is weak, the body cannot maintain a strong barrier.

  • Irregular diet, worry, sadness, poor posture, or low breathing energy can all contribute.
  • This is why digestion, breathing, and immunity often weaken together.
03

Residual pathogens never fully left

One reason people keep getting sick is that the last illness was never fully cleared. In TCM, leftover Heat, Dampness, or other residual factors can remain in the background and make the body more vulnerable to the next round.

  • The body feels like it never truly bounced back.
  • This creates a vicious circle of partial recovery followed by the next illness.
04

Essence is getting overdrawn

Frequent illness, especially when combined with overwork and poor rest, can start draining Essence. Once deeper reserves are weakened, the body loses the foundation needed to create strong new Qi.

  • This is the classic energy credit card pattern: too much output, not enough rebuilding.
  • At that point, short rest no longer feels enough to truly reset immunity.
05

Diet and Dampness make the body more vulnerable

Too many raw, cold, sugary, or damp-forming foods make the Spleen work harder and can generate Dampness internally. This weakens digestive fire and leaves the body heavier, slower, and more easily affected.

  • The body spends too much energy just managing digestion instead of rebuilding resilience.
  • Immunity and digestion often weaken together for this reason.
06

Stress and overstrain keep consuming Qi

Long-term worry, grief, and excessive exertion consume or knot Qi faster than it can be replenished. Even exercise can become draining when it exceeds the body's ability to recover.

  • You may feel permanently run down because the system is never catching up.
  • The body is not just getting attacked from outside. It is also running too low inside.
